ABAC opens Faulkner series with 7-4 loss

MONTGOMERY, Ala. – The ABAC Stallions fell behind early and could never catch up in a 7-4 loss to the Faulkner Eagles Friday at Harrison Field.

The Eagles scored three runs in the bottom of the first inning and thwarted a late ABAC rally to win the first game of the SSAC series. Due to expected bad weather Saturday, the final two games of the series are scheduled to be played Sunday at 4 p.m.

Despite the rough start, the Stallions gave the home team a scare with a big seventh inning. Trailing 5-1, ABAC third baseman Chasin Cash got the rally started with a single and advanced to second on a wild pitch. Joe Fisher singled Cash in and Harrison Childers singled before shortstop Quentin Rawls delivered the two-out heroics. The sophomore laced a double to right, scoring Fisher and Childers and cutting the deficit to 5-4.

But Faulkner immediately answered. In the bottom of the seventh, centerfielder Orlando Lorduy blasted a long two-run home run to center for a 7-4 lead.

Faulkner took the early lead on Edrien Martinez's RBI triple followed by a two-run home run from Eduarny Martinez off ABAC starter Kade Haywood in the first. ABAC's first run came in the second inning when Joe Cooney doubled, went to third on a wild pitch and scored on another wild pitch.

Haywood took the loss, dropping his record to 3-3 on the year. The Stallions totaled eight hits on the day with Fisher getting two of them.

ABAC is now 15-8 on the season and 7-6 in the SSAC.
