MONTGOMERY, Ala. – The ABAC Stallions split the final two games of their weekend series with the 13
th-ranked Faulkner Eagles Sunday, running away to a 14-4 win in Game Two before falling 14-8 in the finale.
In Sunday's first game, the ABAC bats got hot early as the Stallions raced to a 10-1 after four innings. They added two runs each in the fifth and sixth innings, roughing up all four pitches the Eagles put in front of them. Meanwhile, ABAC starter
Trypp Lumpkin, the reigning SSAC Pitcher of the Week, had another masterful performance. The junior allowed two hits and one earned run over five innings, striking out seven and notching his second win of the year.
Solo home runs by
Joe Fisher and
Chasin Cash put ABAC up 2-0 in the second inning before the Stallions put the game away with a seven-run third inning. Cris Walley's two-run double started the big inning and
Brayden Fordham doubled Walley in for a 5-0 lead. Fisher walked and Cash was hit by a pitch to load the bases for
Hunter Robinson, who laced a single down the right field line to score two more.
Parker Wallace kept things going with an RBI single to chase Faulkner starter XXXXX Valencia and Quentin Rawls greeted reliever XXXXX Willhite with a single up the middle to score Robinson for a 9-0 lead.
Cash added another solo homer in the sixth and joined Fisher, Wallace, and Robinson with two hits each.
In the finale, the teams traded leads until the Eagles took over for good with an eight-run fifth inning. ABAC did not help itself with four errors leading to five unearned runs. Walley led the way with three hits including his 10
th home run of the year while Robinson and
Cameron Campbell each had two hits. Starter
Reigh Jordan took the loss for ABAC.
The Stallions are now 16-9 overall and in sixth place in the conference at 8-7 while Faulkner moves to 19-5 overall and tied for second in the SSAC at 9-3.
ABAC will play a pair of non-conference games Tuesday in Jacksonville against Florida Memorial and Trinity Baptist. The Stallions will return home Friday for a conference series with Blue Mountain Christian.
