TIFTON – Just as they did Friday night, the ABAC Fillies proved Saturday that counting them out of any game can be dangerous.
The Fillies mounted a tremendous comeback in their second game with Middle Georgia College and State Saturday before falling 7-5. The opening game was not nearly as dramatic as the Knights cruised to a 7-2 win.
The second game was close throughout and the Knights led 3-1 entering the seventh inning. Middle Georgia seemingly put the game away in the top half of the inning with four runs. Down to their last attempt, the Fillies went down fighting.
Bailey Carreker started the rally with a single, which was misplayed by the Knights' left fielder and Carreker got to second.
Dylana Barton singled and
Ashley Archibald walked to load the bases with no outs.
Then,
Ava Maxwell got ABAC's fans to their feet with a triple to right field, driving in three runs to make it 7-4 and there were still no outs in the inning. Maxwell then scored on
Alli Eidson's groundout but that was all the Fillies could manage as Knights claimed the win.
ABAC managed only five hits and the biggest was in the second inning when Archibald hit her first home run of the season over the left field fence
Anna Hutchison took the loss, pitching six inning and allowing six hits and four earned runs.
In Game One, it was all about the Knights as starting pitcher Emily Proctor went the distance, scattering seven hits and allowing two runs while striking out five. The Fillies fell behind early, trailing 6-0 entering the bottom of the third inning. That's when ABAC cut the lead by two runs when
Emma Humphrey drove in Eidson and
Laney McGee. But they couldn't push across anymore.
The Fillies are now 3-7 overall and 1-3 in the Southern States Athletic Conference. They will return home next Saturday for another conference doubleheader against Point University at 2 p.m.
