Fillies again earn split, this time over William Carey

TIFTON, Ga. - Three Southern States Athletic Conference softball series and three splits for the Abraham Baldwin Agricultural College Fillies in their first week of league competition.

Saturday saw them fall to William Carey 10-0 in the opener, but come back for a 2-1 win in the finale.

Now 3-3 in the SSAC, ABAC is currently 5th in the standings. This week sees them travel to Blue Mountain on Friday and to UT Southern on Saturday. Next home games are March 24, a non-conference doubleheader against Edward Waters.

GAME 1

The Fillies were 1-hit by William Carey, coming off the bat of Carter Gore. Kiersten Carter had a stolen base and ABAC worked 7 walks.

The game was close through 4 innings, as William Carey had a mere 2-0 lead.

Tess Rollins struck out 2.

GAME 2

Lindsey Paul threw another gem Saturday, a complete game victory that not only saw her give up 5 hits and a single earned run, but drive in the game-winning run in the 6th.

The Fillies scored first, a single in the 3rd by Kinley Snider to drive in Ansleigh Darby.

William Carey tied it in the 6th at 1-1.

In the bottom half of the frame, Shelby Smith led off with a single, moving into scoring position on a sac bunt by Lexi Metts.

Emma Humphrey singled Smith up a base before Paul delivered the RBI sacrifice fly to center.

Paul got a 1-2-3 7th to secure the win.

Humphrey had 2 hits. Hannah Capps had a steal.
