HATTIESBURG, Miss. - Abraham Baldwin Agricultural College's Stallions made it another close game Saturday in a 99-90 loss at William Carey.
William Carey was up 18 points with 6:46 remaining (85-67), but the Stallions came thundering back.
Tommie Hall and
Matthew Mairena added 8 quick points on free throws and jump shots before Hall cut the deficit to 10 points at 1:44.
Hall then sank a 3-pointer with 53 seconds left to make it 95-88, but that was unfortunately as close as the Stallions got. Forced to foul, William Carey hit free throws and ABAC was unable to make from the field. Mairena made free throws with 15 seconds left for the final score.
Dontae Smith finished as ABAC's leading scorer at 22 points. Mairena was nearly his equal at 20 points. Hall finished at 18 points, with
Nate Mobley at 14 and
Bryce Wimberly at 12. Wimberly's night was a double-double as he added 13 rebounds.
ABAC hosts its last two games Thursday (versus Brewton-Parker) and Saturday (Point).
