Stallions rout Indiana South Bend twice in Florida

LAKE WALES, Fla. - After splitting games with Warner University Friday, the Abraham Baldwin Agricultural College Stallions baseball team finished the weekend by walloping Indiana University at South Bend twice.

The Stallions outscored the Titans 32-3 over the two games and a mere 14 innings. ABAC began the day with an 8-run inning, and in the second contest, had a 12-run frame.

ABAC hosts their first Southern States Athletic Conference game Tuesday at 3 p.m. against Thomas University (3-3).

GAME 1

Before Indiana South Bend even had a chance to hit, the Stallions were up 8-0, the big blow a grand slam by Quinten Rawls.

Out of the lead-off spot, Rawls stole home for the game's first run, quickly followed by Cameron Campbell on an error.

Joseph Cooney doubled the score to 4-0 when he drove in Drew Rothschild and Kam Taylor on a double. Rawls doubled that on his grand slam.  Billy Girgis, Parker Wallace and Cooney all scored with him.

Rothschild hit a sacrifice fly in the 2nd to drive in Dylan Davis. Girgis forced an error, plating two more in Cooney and Taylor.

The Titans scored their two runs in the bottom of the 3rd.

Rawls added his second steal of home on the day in the 5th. Taylor singled in Campbell and Cooney doubled in Taylor to make it 14-2.

Davis and Taylor homered in the 7th. Davis' clout also scored Chasin Cash.

Trypp Lumpkin went 5.1 innings to earn the win. Maddux Earls finished out the game. Lumpkin had 9 strikeouts and Earls, 2. Both runs were earned.

Taylor went 4-for-5. Cooney and Rawls each had 3 hits and Campbell had 2. Rawls' slam accounted for his 4 RBIs. Cooney had 3 in that department, with Davis and Taylor.

GAME 2

The Titans kept the Stallions' bats quiet - for an inning.

Eighteen men came to the plate in the 2nd; the Stallions batted around twice and Dylan Davis was in the on-deck circle to hit a third time when the inning ended.

Indiana South Bend did get Davis to ground out to open the 2nd, but then the floodgates opened.

Kam Taylor doubled, then scored on a double by Drew Rothschild. Rothschild made it 3-0 when he stole home on a double steal.

Billy Girgis singled in Cooney and Quinten Rawls brought home Talan Watson.

Chasin Cash made it 5-0 when he walked with the bases loaded. An error scored two more. Taylor singled in Cash for an 8-0 lead., followed by an RBI single by Rothschild.

Out No. 2 was Cooney's sacrifice fly that plated Taylor. Girgis drove in Rothschild; Rawls singled home Watson and Cameron Campbell had an RBI for the 12th run, another bases-loaded walk.

A home run by the Titans in the 3rd provided their only run.

Watson was hit by a pitch in the bottom half to score  Taylor. Girgis drove in Rothschild with a single in the same inning.

Control woes plagued the Titans one last time in the 4th, a bases-loaded walk to Kyler Cohen. Dallas Durden scored.

Kade Haywood got the 'W' with a 4-inning performance on the hill. He struck out 7. Durrah Butler, Jeff Hays and Lalan Ellis each worked a scoreless frame for ABAC.

The Stallions pounded out 15 hits, turning those into 15 runs. Taylor had another 4-hit game and Girgis had 3 hits. Girgis drove in 3 runs. Taylor and Rothschild scored 3 teams each.
