MARIETTA, Ga. - The Southern States Athletic Conference playoffs are next up for the Abraham Baldwin Agricultural College Fillies, who finished their regular season Saturday at Life University. The Fillies, headed to their first postseason, struggled in the first and last periods in a 65-46 defeat.
ABAC heads to Montgomery, Ala. Wednesday for a 9 a.m. (CST) contest against Thomas University in the SSAC tournament.
Shakiria Chaney led at 19 points Saturday, completing the double-double with 11 rebounds. She also had 2 steals and 2 blocks.
Dailey Jefferson and
Camiya Starks both netted 6 points.
Trailing by 10 points after the first quarter, the Fillies halved that when Jefferson scored on a layup at 5:48 to make the score 21-16.Â
The run continued.
Reese Riddle sank a trey to trail 23-20 at 4:10. Seconds later
Megan Schultz made a steal and fed Chaney on a fast break to get the score to 23-22. Chaney then stole the ball and was fouled. She made one at the line to tie the score at 23-23 at 3:10.
Life broke the drought at 3:02 on a jump shot, then held the Fillies to a miss at the other end. At halftime, the score was 36-24 in the Eagles' favor.
