THOMASVILLE – Trailing 5-4 Tuesday with time running out in the Rose City, the ABAC Stallions rallied with eight runs in the final two innings to score a 12-5 win over the Thomas University Night Hawks at Varnedoe Field. Although Thomas is also a Southern States Athletic Conference contest, the game was a non-conference contest.
ABAC trailed 5-3 before getting a lone run in the sixth inning when
Chasin Cash reached on an error with two outs and scored on Cam Campbell's double to right center. But the big rally started in the eight as the Stallions sent 10 batters to the plate.
Joe Fisher's RBI double tied the game at 5-5 and
Harrison Childers followed with a sacrifice fly to take the lead.
Pinch-hitter
Dylan Davis's drove in a run with a single up the middle and Cris Walley drew a bases-loaded walk for another run to make it 8-5.
The offense stayed hot in the ninth as the Night Hawks' bullpen continued to hemorrhage runs. Reliever Brandon Eby got two quick outs before Campbell doubled again and Childers drove him in with a single. Pinch-runner
Cooper Scruggs stole second and
Parker Wallace walked to set the plate for shortstop Quentin Rawls, who took Eby's offering over the left field fence for his fourth home run of the year.
Rawls, the Stallions' leading hitter this season, had another fantastic game offensively with four hits and five RBIs. Campbell added a single to his two doubles and reliever
Owen Lamb benefited from the rally to earn his third win of the season, pitching three strong innings and allowing only one Night Hawk hit.
The Stallions are now 24-12 on the year and will head to West Point this weekend for a three-game series against the Point University Skyhawks. The teams will play a doubleheader Friday beginning at 3 p.m. before Saturday's third game at 1 p.m.
