Stallion finish sweep against Toccoa Falls with 8-5 win

TIFTON – Eight hits, six runs scored, 10 runs batted in, four stolen bases, three doubles, and one home run. It's safe to say the Screamin' Eagles from Toccoa Falls College saw more of Quentin Rawls over the last two days than they care to remember.

ABAC's sophomore shortstop continued his standout season with another productive day at the plate Friday, leading the Stallions to an 8-5 win to complete their sweep of TFC. ABAC trailed 2-1 before Rawls blasted a two-run home run over the left field fence to give the Stallions the lead that they never relinquished.

Rawls also scored ABAC's first run of the game in the first on Joe Cooney's sacrifice fly. After his big blast in the third, the Stallions broke the close game open with a five-run fifth inning. Brayden Fordham started it off with his sixth home run of the season, a solo shot to left. Later in the inning, ABAC loaded the bases and catcher Parker Wallace drew a walk to make it 5-2. Rawls followed with a ground ball which was misplayed by the Eagles' shortstop, allowing Chasin Cash to score.

Then, Cam Campbell ripped a single to center field, scoring Cooper Scruggs and Harrison Childers for the 8-2 lead.

Toccoa got three of those runs back in the sixth on a home run by designated hitter Caleb Smith. But the ABAC bullpen allowed no hits over the final three innings to secure the win.

Childers led ABAC with three hits while Campbell, Fordham, and Rawls had two each. Starter Trypp Lumpkin struck out seven while allowing two hits over four innings. Redshirt freshman Trace Hodges got his fourth win of the season as he allowed no hits over 1 2/3 innings of relief.

Now 29-14 overall, ABAC returns to Stallion Field next weekend for the final series of the regular season. Thomas University will visit for a single game at 5 p.m. Friday followed by a doubleheader to begin at 1 p.m. Saturday. The Stallions will play in the Southern States Athletic Conference tournament the following week in Jackson, Tenn.
