MONTGOMERY, Ala. – This weekend, the ABAC Stallion tennis team found out just how tough will be.
The Stallions fell to Loyola, La. Friday 7-0 before losing 6-1 to William Carey on Saturday.
In the match against the Crusaders on Saturday, several matches went down to the wire. In singles,
Ryan Neveu got ABAC's lone win at number two by defeating Matt Shearer 5-7, 7-5, 0-1. Top-seeded Luke Blache lost to Islam Orynbassar 7-5, 6-4;
Thibaut Blanchart fell to Artur Ibragimov 3-6, 6-3, 6-3 at number three;
Benjamin Ranby-Al lost to Jean Nicholas Leblanc 6-2, 6-2 at number four; Sean Canavet fell to Ismoil Hayriddinov 6-3, 6-4 at number five; and
Artur Lovison lost to David Bagrinovski 6-3, 6-2 at number six.
William Carey also took the doubles point by winning all three doubles matches. At number one, Neveu and Blache lost 7-5 to Phil Louis Steinbichler and Ibragimov;
Maximilian Marquard and Ranby-Al lost to the team of Orynbassar and Hayriddinov 6-2 at number two; and
Matthew Rodgers and Blanchart lost to Shearer and Leblanc 6-4 at number three.
The Loyola Wolfpack was more dominant in their sweep of the Stallions. In singles, Loyola's Remus Hebhang-Balan beat Blache 6-0, 6-2 at number one; Sam Izrael bested Neveu 6-4, 3-6, 1-0 at number two; Hippolyte de Preville defeated Blanchart 6-2, 5-7, 1-0 at number three; Spencer Matz beat Ranby-Al 6-3, 6-2 at number four; Alfredo Gallegos beat Canevet 6-2, 6-4 at number five; and Jeff Nguyen beat Lovison 6-4, 6-2 at number six.
In doubles, the ABAC team of Ranby-Al and Marquard defeated de Preville and Gallegos 6-3 at number three. But the Stallions fell in the other two matches to lose the doubles point. Hebhang-Balan and Akhil Indrabalan defeated the team of Blache and Neveu 6-2 at number one while Izrael and Samuel Motazed defeated the team of Rodgers and Blanchart 6-2 at number two.
The Stallions will return to conference action Wednesday when they face Tennessee Southern in Dalton at 1 p.m.
