Jordan, Walley lead way as Stallions finish sweep

TIFTON – Before this weekend's series against SSAC foe Blue Mountain Christian, the ABAC Stallions had not enjoyed back-to-back outstanding pitching performances until Friday when Trypp Lumpkin and Kade Haywood delivered two gems. Following Friday's sweep, ABAC head coach Blake Williams said simply, "Those were good. Hope we get another one tomorrow."

Saturday, Reigh Jordan delivered.

The junior from Headland, Ala. gave the Stallions their third stellar outing of the series, allowing three hits and one earned run over seven innings while striking out nine in a 7-5 win over the Toppers at Stallion Field. ABAC is now 11-7 in the conference and in fourth place in the league standings while rising to 21-9 overall.

While Jordan was taming the Toppers at the plate, freshman first baseman Cris Walley was continuing his tremendous season at the plate. In four plate appearances Saturday, Walley had two home runs and a double with five RBIs. His 14 home runs on the season lead the SSAC and have him tied for third in the country in NAIA.

Walley opened the game with a three-run shot to center in the first and followed with a two-run blast in the second inning to give Jordan an early cushion with a 5-0 lead. Jordan did not allow a hit until Jacob Bryant's solo home run in the fourth inning.

The Stallions scored another run in the fifth when second baseman Harrison Childers drove in Joe Cooney with a single. Third baseman Chasin Cash plated another run with an RBI groundout in the seventh for a 7-1 lead.

But Blue Mountain did make it interesting late. After head coach Taylor Clark was ejected from the game in the seventh for arguing balls and strikes, the Toppers got an RBI single from Hayden Redding in the eighth inning. In the ninth, Chris Smith greeted reliever Lalan Ellis with a double and Carson Gault walked before Ross Polizzi homered to right field to cut the Stallions' lead to 7-5. But Ellis settled in and struck out the final two batters to seal the win.

Sophomore right fielder Brayden Fordham had another big game with three hits, raising his team-high batting average to .406 on the year. Shortstop Quentin Rawls added two more and stole his 18th base of the year in the process.

The Stallions will return home next weekend for a series against Middle Georgia State University, who was swept by Thomas University in a three-game series this weekend in Cochran. The rivals will play a single game Friday at 4 p.m. followed by a Saturday doubleheader beginning at 1 p.m.
