AUGUSTA – The hits just keep coming for the ABAC Stallions.
Following a monster offensive output last weekend, the Stallions pounded out 23 hits for 27 combined runs in a sweep over Paine College Tuesday. ABAC won the opener 14-3 before taking Game Two 13-9.
The homestanding Lions did give the Stallions a run in the second game and it was tied 9-9 after five innings of play. In the top of the sixth,
Chasin Cash led off with a single and
Joe Cooney moved him to third with a double to center field.
Dylan Davis brought both of them around with another double for an 11-9 lead. Davis then stole third and scored on a wild pitch. ABAC added one more in the seventh on Cris Walley's fourth home run of the year.
Reliever
Owen Lamb notched his second win of the season, allowing only one hit in 1 2/3 innings of work. He combined with
Nicholas Milbrant and
Lalan Ellis to close out the last 3 2/3 innings, allowing no runs. Walley, Cash, who also homered, and Davis each drove in three runs.
In the opener, Stallion right fielder
Brayden Fordham drove in enough runs by himself to get the win. The sophomore from McDonough continued his hot steak and counted two home runs among his three hits and five RBIs. Fordham leads ABAC with a .426 average and is tied with Walley for the team lead in home runs (4) and RBIs (19). His homers in the first and third innings helped the Stallions grab a 5-0 leads and they never looked back. Shortstop Quentin Rawls added an inside-the-park home run as well.
Redshirt freshman
Trace Hodges earned his first win of the year, allowing four hits over six strong innings and striking out nine.
The Stallions are now 11-5 on the year and will host the University of Mobile in a Southern States Athletic Conference series this weekend. Friday's doubleheader is set to begin at 1 p.m. with a single game Saturday at 1 p.m.
