TIFTON, Ga. - Abraham Baldwin Agricultural College dug out of a 10-point halftime deficit Monday night against the College of Coastal Georgia, but even a second-half surge was not enough in an 87-77 loss.
Matthew Mairena tied the game at 51-all at 16:13 in the second half, but the Mariners surged back ahead with a 13-5 run over the next five minutes.
ABAC had spent the entire first half in a hole. The Stallions never held a lead in the game and were down 8-0 in the first two minutes. Coastal Georgia held a 51-41 halftime advantage.
Tommie Hall and Mairena were once again ABAC's scoring leaders. Hall scored 24 points before fouling out in the last minute of the game. Mairena netted 22 - including 8-of-8 from the free throw line - and added 7 assists.
Bryce Wimberly was hot in the paint for 13 points.
The Stallions were 8-of-16 from behind the arc and made 17-of-21 free throws.
